Mankind's Greatest Creation

I would like to take a moment to write about something other than motherhood. I would like to take this instance to sing the praises of that most perfect of creations... the simple cup of coffee. Yes...we all know that the sugary, fatty, high-calorie concoctions that Starbucks peddles are simply delicious. There is no denying the lusciousness of those drinks. However, I am cautiously proposing that the plain old simple cup of coffee is mankind's greatest discovery. Is there a drink on this entire planet that serves a greater purpose than coffee? Is there a drink in existence that is more pure...more virtuous...more exquisite? I would offer a resounding "no!" Just think about everything that coffee does...everything that it is. You wake up in the morning groggy. Coffee to the rescue. You are sitting at work shivering because the company you work for (a heating company, no less!) has the air conditioner blowing on your neck all day. Coffee to the rescue. You feel yourself tensing up because your children are running around like lunatics on leave from a mental hospital. Coffee to the rescue. You have a load of bills that need to be paid and all you want to do it go to bed. Coffee to the rescue. You meet a cute girl or boy that you would like to get to know better (I am talking about you single people out there...not myself, of course). Coffee to the rescue. You have a friend who drives you nuts. She wants to do dinner...you don't think you can handle spending that much time with her, so you suggest your favorite coffee shop instead. Coffee to the rescue. You want to suck up to the new boss. Coffee to the rescue. Your cat insists that the butt-crack of dawn in when she needs to eat and refuses to be ignored. Coffee to the rescue. The coworker you like every other day of the week is disgustingly perky on Monday mornings. Coffee to the rescue.

Wow...I could go on and one. I think there is a good chance that coffee could bring about world peace if our fearless leaders simply had the insight to consider coffee's tranquil properties. It certainly brings peace to MY world.
