Day 13: Make It Stop

Sometimes I wonder how two people so completely polar opposite can fall in love and—even more amazingly—stay together for fifteen years.

I am thinking these deep thoughts this evening because I emerged from the shower just now to find Ruanita cuddled up on the couch with our dog, fully engrossed in a John Wayne western. I am sitting here trying to embrace her movie of choice. Really, I am. But frankly, I think I'd rather be kicked in the head with John Wayne's boots. Even our boxer, Stella, has hidden her face in Ruanita's armpit so as not to watch.

“It's a classic,” Ruanita declares, trying to defend the unbelievably racist, sexist, and nauseatingly “macho” film to which she is subjecting me and poor, defenseless Stella. “It's one of the top 100 films of all time!”

Yea...yea...I know John Wayne is an American icon, but does that mean we have to actually watch his movies?

Oh God, the cowboys are singing now.

Please make it stop.

Someone...

Make it stop.

I can safely say I have never watched a John Wayne movie in my life. And I am proud to say I'm glad.

Hilarious. I too think those movies are sexist and racist but when I sit down and watch them I always get sucked in... especially that one about the boxer that hauls Maureen O'hara around by her hair. The Quiet Man?
