Report card update....

I was quite pleased with Lucas' report card today. They do not get A's, B's, and C's like we did waaaayyy back in the day. Rather, it is a number system. A 1 means "needs improvement." A 2 is "approaching standard." A 3 is "at standard" and a 4 is "advanced." Lucas got mostly 3's, with a few 2's and 2+'s in reading and writing. He reads well when he is in the mood...and his writing is very messy. I need to work with him more on his writing. He did, however, receive one 4. My son DID excel in something. He got a 4 in "singing skills"...of all things! This amuses me to no end because 1.) the boy can't carry a tune in a bucket and 2.) you have to force him against his will to sing anything at all. So apparently, he could be the next American Idol. Who knew? Perhaps if he never learns to read...and therefore, can't be a decorated nuclear physicist...we could just put some guyliner on him and hand him a microphone. He's good at writhing around on the floor. We could have a star on our hands!

Seriously though, I am proud of him. He needs some work on reading and writing, but I can easily work with him more on that. His teacher commented that she has seen great improvement from him in these areas and expects him to be reading and writing at grade level by the end of the year. More importantly, she noted that he is a very kind and caring little boy. In the end, that's what really matters to me most.
