Is there no end to my suckiness? My poor children...being raised by idiots. Friday afternoon, when I picked Lucas up from school, he informed me that I had neglected to send treats to school for his birthday. His birthday was this past Sunday. They had acknowledged his birthday at school on Friday and it was quite apparent that Lucas was woefully lacking in the treat department. Apparently, the parents of every other child whose birthday falls within the school year up to that point had sent in treats of some sort or another to share with the class in honor of the birthday boy or girl. I sent in cookies when Lucas was in kindergarten and first grade, but somehow, I managed to forget this year. I asked Lucas if other parents ever forgot treats. Of course, he vehemently denied any other parent's neglectfulness. In his eyes, I was the one and only sucky parent in the second grade. I apologized profusely and promised him that we would buy treats for him to take in on Tuesday (his school was closed Monday for MLK day). I assured him that we would find the most decadent store-bought treat available (homemade treats are not allowed). I guaranteed we would put his classmates into a sugar-induced coma come Tuesday. He seemed satisfied with my level of remorse and began chattering away about Super Mario Brothers.
So, what did I end up sending in to wow his classmates yesterday? What sugary confection did I come up with to prove my aptitude as a supermom? Absolutely nothing. Zilch. I forgot......again. I remembered this morning (Wednesday) as I was getting ready for work. At this point, I am not sure what I am going to have to send in to make up for my flagrant and egregious suckiness. I can tell you one thing, however. Chocolate chip cookies simply aren't going to cut it this time.
I suck.
